SEPTEMBER’S CLIMATE CONVERSATION PROGRAM
Climate Change Deniers: Politics and Religion
September’s program will be presented by Kyle Dittmer.
The science of climate change, although accepted by most, has seen some hard resistance from some groups based on political and/or religious views. Why do these people hold the views that they do? What fuels climate skeptics and deniers? Can a deeper understanding of these two segments of our society get them to “see the light” when it comes to climate change and perhaps other environmental issues? How can we bridge this gap in understanding in a constructive way?
Tune in for this Zoom program and learn some of the basics of climate science, along with the context of political, religious, and societal impacts on climate science, in a thoughtful way through the eyes of a practicing climate scientist and college professor.
Our presenter has been tracking and understanding the climate change issue for over 35 years since he worked for the NOAA/National Weather Service and now with CRITFC. Kyle authored two published peer-reviewed climate papers in 2013.
Kyle Dittmer is the staff Hydrologist-Meteorologist at CRITFC. He shares his climate science knowledge with students at local colleges through new climate change courses. Kyle currently teaches Earth Science classes (part-time) at Clark College, WA.
