Place-based Learning
We’ll explore the idea that our ecosystems have wisdom to offer, allowing us to process feelings of climate anxiety, grief, and hope through place-based reflection and creativity. Connect to your local environment to process and make sense of your climate emotions!
What to expect
- Participants will share a personal story or example of learning from nature to cope with climate emotions.
- Creative Journaling Exercise: prompts designed to reflect on your relationship with their local ecosystem.
- Group Reflection & Sharing.
Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of Braiding Sweetgrass Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants
”I live vicariously through the photosynthesis of others. I am not the vibrant leaves on the forest floor–I am the woman with the basket, and how I fill it is a question that matters. If we are fully awake, a moral question arises as we extinguish the other lives around us on behalf of our own. Whether we are digging wild leeks or going to the mall, how do we consume in a way that does justice to the lives that we take?” p. 177

We recommend that before deciding to embark on a new role in the climate action movement, to first examine your personal well-being and balance practice. The experts suggest regular participation in community peer support to address ongoing emotions.
