About the event
Learn more about gardening in wildfire country. Tuesday, April 15 from 5:30-8:00 pm.
As wildfires increase in intensity and size, the question of how to make your property more fire-resilient is an increasing concern. There is a way to have a fun and vibrant garden without adding to the risk of wildfire damage to your property – and it doesn’t have to look like a moonscape!
OSU Regional Fire Specialist, Micah Schmidt, and SWCD Firewise Coordinator, Anna Lindquist, will guide you through the ins and outs of what contributes to a landscape’s wildfire risk, how to complete a home landscape assessment, and tips for creating beautiful firewise gardens in your own landscape. Micah and Anna will also be able to answer questions about wildfire in our region, along with sharing local resources to help you prepare.
This class is part of the 2025 Master Gardener training and is open to the community for a $15 fee. You are welcome to bring snacks or a sack dinner. Class takes place at the Union County Extension building, 10507 N McAlister Rd, La Grande.
To Register: Call 541-963-1010 or stop by the OSU Extension office (cash, check, credit). Advance registration saves you a seat & helps us make sure we’re ready for you (handouts, activity materials, etc.); drop-ins are welcome as space permits.
