About the event

After months of intense lobbying from industry and truck manufacturers and dealers, Governor Kotek has caved into the pressure and Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is rolling back recently enacted diesel standards meant to bring cleaner technology and healthy air to Oregon.

It appears that, with more than two years of lead time, truck manufacturers have deliberately delayed the availability of newer diesel technology.

Oregon made a promise to deal with the impacts of diesel pollution, and with this decision, it is going back on that promise. Diesel exhaust contains 40 cancer causing chemicals, diesel emissions kill 176 Oregonians each year, and diesel exposure costs Oregonians $1.9 billion annually. Black, Indigenous and People of Color are hardest hit, as they live in areas with with up to 3 times higher levels of diesel emissions.
